The Voice

Becky Hill (on the right) is already collaborating with her Voice coach Jessie J. The 18-year-old, who has been performing in bands since she was 15, is said to have struck a chord with Jessie after choosing her as a mentor over will.i.am.
And according to one of her ex-bandmates, she has already been busy penning future hits with the Domino singer – even though the show is still going on. Becky started a soul band called Shaking Trees in her home town of Bewdley, Worcs, with semi-pro musicians more than three times her age.

Drummer Nige Mayall, 48, who described Becky as an “awesome” singer, revealed that Jessie is wasting no time putting her talent to use. Nige said: “I think Jessie J spotted straight away what good songs Becky writes and she encouraged that. Becky’s songs are emotional and relate to women. She writes them herself but is happy to share them with others to work on and play. I first met her when she was 15. The songs she had written were so good and the lyrics were very mature and assertive for a girl of that age. I’m sure Jessie J would have felt she could really relate to Becky because she wrote songs when she was 15. I can see them releasing music together. I’m sure Jessie J appreciates the high standard of Becky’s music and songwriting. I know The Voice is all about finding a singer but Becky is a complete musician. A pal of mine who used to be in the band says Becky and Jessie have already started working on songs together.”

Becky split with her band at the end of last year to pursue solo success in The Voice. She secured her spot in the series by nailing a version of John Legend’s Ordinary People, which was co-written by coach will.i.am. Despite the Black Eyed Peas frontman offering to mentor her, she chose to side with Jessie J, leaving will.i.am looking less than pleased.
According to Mayall, her decision to walk away from Will’s offer was “typically Becky”. He said: “She’s really strong-headed, you could tell that will.i.am wasn’t happy with her decision but I think she knew what would be best for her. Becky’s not afraid of voicing her opinion and I think that’s why her and Jessie are getting on so well. I hope that they work together after the show. They could have some serious success together.”
